About this series

Welcome to the Olly the Owl series. The Olly the Owl one-year course, for Junior A & B makes use of a range of classroom strategies and materials that teachers know work well with young learners. The uncomplicated and consistent lesson structure will prove a powerful tool for experienced and new teachers alike.

The series also includes a Pre-Junior level as well as separate Junior A and Junior B levels.

The philosophy behind Olly the Owl series

The series presents a hands-on approach to experiential learning and makes use of a range of classroom strategies and materials that teachers know work well with young learners.

The main objectives of the series are: a) to teach English through cross-curricular features, creative awareness and the promotion of values such as cooperation and respect for others, b) to familiarise pupils with the alphabet, vocabulary and basic grammar structures and c) to make use of the individual learning styles of pupils (auditory, visual, tactile).

Furthermore, the series provides a solid framework which both experienced and new teachers can benefit from. It will boost the confidence of new teachers and help them develop sound teaching techniques. More confident teachers can use their classroom experience to expand on the framework and add a more personal touch.

Key features:

  • use of mainly CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) and three-letter words to present and teach the alphabet
  • fold-out section in the Coursebook to promote teaching through cross-curricular features, creative awareness and social values
  • 7 well-known children’s stories adapted for this level
  • a song in each lesson which can be used as a TPR (Total Physical Response) activitiy to help reinforce the language focus of the lesson
