The Alphabet Book incorporates its own Workbook, Companion as well as Extra Activity sheets into one book and it is the first part of the Olly the Owl one-year course. It consists of 10 lessons:

Lessons 1 & 2

These are introductory lessons, precursors to the main syllabus. They provide pupils with songs and easy listening and speaking activities to boost their confidence and pave the way to more concrete learning.

Lessons 3-10

This is the alphabet-learning section of the book. These lessons teach the alphabet and introduce basic language functions, eg- the use of a/an, What’s this/ that? etc.

There is a Revision section after every two lessons that provides additional practice of vocabulary and language structures presented in the lessons. The revision sections can be used as a progress check and ongoing self-assessment. No new material is presented in the Revision sections.

The Alphabet Book includes also 8 songs that help pupils learn and assimilate the names and the sounds of the alphabet letters. Also, there are 2 stickers pages at the back of the Alphabet Book which are to be used in specific activities. These activities promote pupils’ listening, reading and speaking skills in a motivating and learner-friendly way.

The workbook section of the Alphabet Book starts from lesson 3. There is a revision section every two lessons.

The full-coloured Companion section that follows mirrors the structure of the Alphabet Book. Each lesson contains:

  • words and expressions from the reading texts of the Alphabet Book, translated into Greek
  • language structure presentation with example sentences in both English and Greek
  • extra vocabulary and language structure practice in colour-coded activities

Guidelines for each lesson of the Alphabet Book as well as extra material for experiential activities and creative projects are included in the Teacher's edition of the Coursebook.
