The coursebook consists of 12 units. Each unit focuses on a theme and it contains: - Getting started: presentation of the unit’s objectives and a lead-in to the general topic of the unit (questions, quizzes, photos, pie charts, etc) - Reading: A variety of reading texts (articles, projects, blogs, leaflets, websites, etc) and reading comprehension tasks of different types - Vocabulary: tasks based on the vocabulary of the reading text along with extra tasks for further practice - Grammar: the grammatical phenomena are presented in a novel way with students taking an active rather than a passive role with tasks that encourage further comprehension and consolidation - Skills:

  • A variety of listening tasks that cover all exam types.
  • A variety of speaking tasks that are linked to the theme of the unit, giving students the chance to use the vocabulary and ideas that they have been exposed to.
  • A variety of writing tasks that cover all exam types; emphasis is placed on the development of a plan

- Looking back: this contains self-assessment questions and an I CAN DO list - Revision tests (one per unit) with vocabulary and grammar tasks. - Appendices:

  • Grammar Appendix: a detailed explanation of the grammar phenomena for each unit, with example sentences
  • Speaking appendix: useful vocabulary, expressions and ideas
  • Writing appendix: samples for the writing tasks, useful vocabulary and expressions, extra tasks
