The lesson structure of Dot and Dash Junior A is consistent and straightforward. Emphasis is given to pupils’ listening and speaking skills.

The Student’s Coursebook is made up of 30 core lessons. The syllabus has the following structure:

  • an introductory lesson at the beginning of the book, focusing on basic vocabulary, functional language and singing
  • 30 theme-based lessons
  • 6 Revision sections
  • 3 children’s stories
  • 3 cross-curricular sections
  • a page presenting adjectives and a page with cartoons promoting good manners
  • stickers

Specifically:

The 30 lessons of the Coursebook provide a clear grammar-based curriculum with parallel activities in reading, speaking, listening and writing. Age-appropriate theme-based vocabulary is introduced in every lesson. There is a grammar cartoon story (Captain Grammar) in each lesson, which presents the grammar focus of the lesson in a humorous way.

There are Revisions after every five lessons in the Coursebook. For pupils' benefit, photocopiable Extra Revisions have been provided in the Teacher’s Book. They are to be used after 2 or 3 lessons accordingly, for additional practice. No new material is presented in any Revision section.

There are three stories in the book, specially written for this level. They revise material taught up to specific points in the book and also introduce language points which will be met later on in the syllabus. The stories reach out to pupils’ emotional and social intelligence, helping them deal with feelings towards themselves and others.

There are three cross-curricular sections which promote creative awareness and social values and connect pupils to the real world. Thus the title, ‘Real time!’ The texts in these sections are thematically linked to the topics of the book, incorporating grammar already taught up to that point. Suggested projects make use of modern technology to engage, motivate and involve pupils in their learning process.
