The Student’s Coursebook is made up of 30 core lessons of two pages each. Throughout the course, emphasis is given to listening and repeating, with secondary emphasis on letter-writing. The syllabus has the following structure:

• 6 lessons at the beginning of the book, focusing on basic vocabulary, functional language and singing. These lessons bring pupils into contact with basic conversational English. They focus mainly on listening, recognition and repetition, but also give ample pre-writing practice.
• 14 lessons teaching the name and sound of the letters with pictures and easy-to-read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, where emphasis is on recognition. Pupils also learn the numbers 1-10 and basic colours.
• 12 theme-based lessons, introducing thematically linked vocabulary and basic language function.
